How to Choose Wedding Shoes

by: Craig Lipper

So, you are engaged. Congratulations. I know a lot of things are going in your mind right now. Preparations for your wedding can be tough. You will have to make a lot of decisions and choices. Some are easy and some are pretty difficult. Some have to be done early in wedding planning and some can wait till later. There is one decision which brides usually keep for later is regarding their wedding shoes. I believe, wedding shoes should be finalized as soon as you zero in on your wedding dress. Finding the correct pair of wedding shoes can be a challenge sometimes.

Here are a few things which should be kept in mind while deciding on wedding shoes:

Location of wedding - This is the most important one. If you are having a traditional wedding, you can probably go with heels and more traditional pair of shoes. But in case it is a beach wedding, you would like to avoid heels and stilettos. Similarly there are different choices for different themes and venues.

Color - Second in the list is color. Usually, the color of wedding shoes is white or a variant of white. But this is not mandatory. Based on your theme of wedding and wedding dress, you can have different color shoes.

Heel - The heel of the wedding shoes also depends on your wedding theme. You would probably not want to wear heels in a beach wedding. If you want to stand tall among your guests, you can have high heels. You should also consider the height of your partner while deciding height of the heel. One more thing to take care is that you should not alter the length of your wedding dress until you finalize the height of your wedding shoes.

Time of year is also important in deciding the type of wedding shoe. You probably won't like to wear open toe shoes in winters.

Accessorizing your Wedding Shoes

You can add some embellishments like beads and jewels on traditional shoe designs. It will make them look trendier.

Comfort - This goes without saying. Whatever you chose, make sure you feel comfortable in them since you will have to wear them for most part of the day. You should be comfortable walking, standing and dancing in those shoes.

Last but not least, the cost. While making the purchase, remember that you are going to wear them only once. Depending upon your sentiments, it can be the biggest factor.
