Everyone knows that running a car costs a lot of money, and a significant portion of that is due to the price of petrol. The table below is an attempt to track the price of Super Unleaded across the UK, showing variations in price from different retailers. (These prices reflect the information we have collected from you and may not necessarily reflect a true comparison of variations in retail price).
The information is collected from all over the UK. Each data entry is 'normalised' to allow for the fact that it would be, for example, unfare to compare Esso in East Anglia and Shell in the outer hebrides. In this way an accurate comparison of retail Super Unleaded prices will be built up. Eventually it is hoped to show a rolling average of the retail Super Unleaded price which will track any step changes in a retailers price at the pumps. Currently it is based on all our data.
Whatprice also has information on how petrol prices affect the running costs of your car, as well as an example on how to calculate car running costs, as well as local Super Unleaded prices, for a closer look at each town.

As you can see from the chart the price of petrol in the UK has been steadily increasing lately. However Petrol Prices aren't nearly as high as during the 'Fuel Protests' of September 2000, where the price of Petrol reached over 85p a litre! And of course these petrol prices have not been adjusted for inflation...
