Guide to Car Servicing

In today's society, cars are much more reliable and durable than they used to be. Because of this, it takes quite some time before car servicing is actually needed.

Car Maintenance

It is true that modern technology has significantly improved through the years, but every car is still in need of proper maintenance to avoid its parts from wearing out within extreme conditions. Fortunately, it is now possible to make car parts last much longer and increase your car's reliability between car servicing in the process.

Car Servicing

It is of the utmost importance that your car goes through car servicing as many times as the manufacturer has advised. If you do not follow this rule, you will end up spending more in the long run as your car goes through breakdowns, excessive wear, and costly repairs. Plus, it could even be extremely dangerous in some cases.

A car's schedule for maintenance highly depends on its overall climate and operating conditions. If your car is used in the cold, for instance, it may need more oil changes than those used in hot weather since moisture needs to be kept out of the engine. All manufacturers have particular schedules for car servicing that may vary from one to the next, but they also have certain things in common.

The 1,000 Mile Service is car servicing that is completely optional and is used to get rid of various debris found inside the cylinder heads and engine blocks. Such debris tends to be a manufacturer's by-product that usually stems from machine work and may easily cause the engine to fail prematurely.

Changes in oil filters and engine oil can be done like any simple oil filter and engine oil change. Simply find the correct oil pan drain plug (several cars have them on the transmission, so take heed) and place an oil drain pan under it. Then, loosen the plug and completely remove it by twisting it counter-clockwise. The used oil should then flow through the oil pan until it is empty. Check the drain plug sealing washer and replace it, if needed before you re-install and tightly fasten the oil drain plug. Then, you can use a large set of pliers or an oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter, which will led to a small amount of oil spillage. Make sure you make good use of shop towels to lessen the deal with this minor predicament. Once the oil is completely drained, remove the oil filter, and thoroughly check the oil filter sealing gasket to see if it is actually on top of the old filter and not still stuck in the engine block that needs to be transferred. Then, completely clean out the block's surface and apply a little bit of oil onto the oil filter seal. The filter can then be re-installed and tightened by hand. After this, the work under the car should be finished and the new motor oil can be added to the engine. The majority of car engines take around five quarts of motor oil, but you should take a look at your owner's manual to check for the level. It is essential to achieve the correct level in this case.
