How to Do Windscreen Repairs
Step One: Get a Windscreen Repair Kit
It is official: we have tried out one of those windscreen repair kits and they turned out to be extremely effective in the rock chip department. Windscreen repair kits can be found practically anywhere in the marketplace, though these are usually much cheaper and much simpler versions compared to professional windscreen repair kits that can be found in physical shops. Here are some tips and tricks from experience to help you repair your windscreen the easy way and in no time at all.
First and foremost, it is essential to know the capabilities of these windscreen repair kits. They may work very well when it comes to chips, but running cracks may prove to be too big of a challenge for it. In fact, when we tried repairing a crack with our windscreen repair kit, we made no progress whatsoever.
Step Two: Windscreen Repair Instructions
Make sure the damaged windscreen area is thoroughly cleaned before you start. This means, you have to take out the razor blade and get rid of any tiny loose glass pieces. Glass pieces that remain in the area could completely deter the repair process, so make sure you get rid of all of them.
Once the area is ready and clean, firmly place a suction cup tool right on top of the damaged area and secure it there. Do not worry if you aren't exactly in the center of the point. Once this is done, thread the repair tube into the suction cup tool; this needs to be screwed very tightly - hand-tight. Windscreen repair relies quite deeply on the tools correct alignment, so make sure you keep checking if it is in the right position. If it isn't, unscrew the tube and position it differently.
Next, add two drops of your super juice into the windscreen repair tube and insert the center plunger all the way down, in order to properly push the windscreen repair resin straight into the damaged area. Once it is tight enough, loosen the plunger for a while to let go of any air bubbles and then tighten it again. Air bubbles are never wanted during windscreen repair.
Then you can take off the suction cup tool and cover the moist repair area with clear finishing film. Make sure you do not lose the film, as this could definitely mess up all the work you have already done. The repair resin needs to completely dry under the clear film, so just let it set until it does; there is no need to hurry while doing this, though ten minutes should be sufficient time for it to dry. Make sure you never pull it off while it is still wet. If you do, however, do not panic. Simply add another drop of repair resin and put on a brand new piece of film - no worries.
Clean up by getting rid of any extra repair resin on the windscreen with the help of a razor blade. Then, you're all done.
You'll know you were highly successful if there is no trace of the damage on the windscreen. Don't worry if you didn't perfect the process. You can keep trying until you get the perfect smoothness that you are aiming for.
