Plastering Prices and Techniques
Q - I have received a quotation from a plastering firm for work that includes hacking up floor and wall tiles, plastering walls where there used to be some cupboards and other sundry work. The price seems reasonable but my concern is that it is only a one-line quote and when the plasterer came to see me he didn't make any notes and didn't appear to be taking a lot of notice of what I was saying. So I'm worried that he may want extra payment for work that he has not included in his quote. What do you think I should do?
A - Write to him accepting the quote but confirm the items of work you want carried out. He will either accept the work on that basis or will ask for more money before work commences. Either way, you will have control of the situation.
Q - We are struggling to obtain quotations for plastering work in our new house because the quotes we have received to date vary widely. Could you give us some approximate costs per room?
The costs below are based on plasterboard and skim to the ceilings and plaster 19mm thick on the walls.

Q- I am going out for quotations for insulated dry lining to be fixed to existing wall battens and then skimmed. What sort of rates should I expect to receive?
A - Probably about £25 per square metre.
