Solutions for Bad Breath
Bad breath can be embarrassing for those who suffer from it. It can also be unpleasant for those around people who have it. When was the last time you wanted to sit and have a close conversation with someone who had bad breath? There are many things that you can do to help prevent bad breath.
The first thing we need to do is look at what causes the bad breath in the first place. Bad breath is caused by bacteria that produces odor. This bacteria grows in the mouth. The bacteria builds up when you don't brush and floss often enough. The sulfur that is released from the bacteria is what causes bad breath odor.
Many people with bad breath may be thinking, well I brush my teeth twice a day and I still feel like I have bad breath. If you are brushing your teeth for 2 minutes three times a day and flossing once a day you shouldn't have bad breath. If you do you can talk to your dentist about getting a prescription for special toothpaste. The toothpaste is formulated for those people who still have bad breath and they are doing all the right things.
If you are concerned about your breath because you have a hot date or you are going to a business meeting you should try avoiding foods that tend to linger on your breath. This includes onions, garlic, alcohol and fish oils.
Smoking can cause bad breath as well. Smokers don't really notice how they smell until they quit smoking. Try to quit smoking if you can. Even if you only quit for a day you will realize how you smell of cigarette smoke when you smell it on someone else. Smoker's breath is nearly impossible to get rid of.
Additional bad breath tips
While it is not a supplement for good brushing and flossing, mouthwash can be beneficial in helping to hide bad breath. Mouth was will temporarily kill the bacteria that can cause bad breath.
If you only use mouth wash and do not brush and floss, you will still have bad breath. Food gets trapped down below your gums and mouth wash can't get to it, the bacteria created by this food will still release the sulfur that causes you to have bad breath.
Chewing gum and sucking on mints only covers up bad breath it doesn't eliminate it. Have you ever been talking to someone whose breath smelled like a minty cigarette? How about someone whose breath smelled like a dead rodent with bubble gum perfume? Remember the conversation that you had with that person before you go trying to cover up your bead breath.
Many people have bad breath and they don't even know it. This is because they can't smell it! The bacteria that causes bad breath tends to congregate in the back of your mouth. If you are simply breathing you won't be able to smell it, however when we speak aloud we tend to project the bacteria forward and this allows other people to smell it. If people are backing away from you when you talk you may want to think about how often you are brushing your teeth. You should also think about how much time you are spending doing it.
