Invisible Dental Braces
Many people are interested in straightening their teeth for cosmetic reasons, but have never done so, because they are concerned about the way their smiles will look if they are wearing braces. When they think of braces, they think of the mouth full of metal they remember from high school and they are no longer interested in straightening their teeth. Well now days there are a few options out there for those of us who would rather not have stainless steel braces on our teeth. Invisible braces are becoming more and more popular with professional adults and well as self conscious teens.
The most popular brands of invisible aligners use a unique system to make an elaborate model of your teeth. From the model the company is able to produce a set of aligners that will very ever so slightly from one to the next. This allows the teeth to shift slightly every couple of weeks.
These aligners are placed in the mouth over top of the teeth. They are easily removed for things like eating and brushing your teeth. They can also be removed for special occasions. For the aligners to work properly it is recommended that they are worn for approximately twenty two out of twenty four hours a day.
Many times a small amount of tooth colored composite is attached to the tooth at help anchor the aligners. This gives the aligners something to grab on to as they work to reposition the teeth. The composite is easily removed by your orthodontist after the treatment is over. The tooth is left as it was before the treatment.
The aligners must be cleaned thoroughly twice daily. This is accomplished by using a toothbrush with soft bristles and tooth paste. You would brush the aligners when you brush your teeth using small circular motions and rinsing the aligners well when you are finished. They are then to be put back on immediately. Most of the companies that manufacture this type of braces also sell a solution that you can soak your aligners in for extra cleanliness.
This type of invisible braces is usually used in adults and very responsible teens. They can be expensive and are easy to break or misplace. You should never take them out while swimming as it will be impossible to find them in the water. You should never leave them in a hot car or in direct sunlight, because the plastic is very thin and can be easily warped. You should never try to boil them to clean them. Also never leave them out where your dog or even your cat can get a hold of them. Pets tend to be drawn to them because they smell like you and they tend to chew them up.
Another type of invisible braces being marketed in the United States are lingual braces. These braces are fairly new, but are becoming popular quickly. Some cases are best handled by traditional metal braces and that is where lingual braces can come in very handy.
Lingual braces are not exactly invisible, but they are very discreet as they go on the inside of your teeth instead of the outside. This keeps them hidden. They can't be seen in photographs or even when you smile at that special someone across the room. They are customized to your teeth and work very much like traditional braces. These braces are a great option for self- conscious teens, musicians who play wind instruments and athletes as they do not sit against the inner lips.
Invisible braces can be a great option for you or your teenager. The best thing to do is consult with your orthodontist on which type will work best for you. Invisible braces allow you to keep your confidence high while giving yourself a perfect smile!
