Healthy Drinks for Your Body and Mind

If you find yourself with little time to prepare healthy meals on a daily basis, here is a list of some of the drinks that can help your body and mind with virtually no effort required of you in their preparation.

Beetroot Juice
Has recently been shown to help reduce high blood pressure by as much as 10 off the systolic by drinking 500ml of beetroot juice.

Berry Juice
All forms of berry juice will help improve your brain activity since they are very high in phytochemicals and have a very good vitamin C content.

Red Wine
The alcoholic beverage-lovers amongst you will be happy to learn that in moderation, red wine can have numerous health benefits. These include helping you de-stress and relax. Since red wine contains abundant amounts of flavonoids, it may be able to protect your brain against Alzheimer's disease.

Mango Juice
The mango fruit contains plenty of antioxidant beta carotene that can help to reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease.

Milk
An excellent source of calcium and protein for both the young and old. It provides you with all the amino acids that your body may need to grow and repair as well as improving your mental acuity by the increased amount of noradrenaline your body is able to produce. A pint of milk a day in your 20s and 30s has been shown to help reduce the risk of osteoporosis in later life.

Noni Juice
There has been much attention to this drink, especially in the USA and in Eastern Europe. It is a juice made from the fruit of the Noni tree which has been found by many to help numerous illnesses, especially digestive ailments such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and irritable bowel disease (IBD). 500ml of Noni juice from health food stores cost just under £10. However, it can be bought cheaper online, especially when buying in bulk.

Orange Juice
Fresh orange juice is rich in vitamin C which helps fight all sorts of diseases and infections due to it's antioxidant content. The vitamin C in orange juice can also help your body absorb iron and improve brain activity. Hence, drinking orange juice may protect you from anaemia or indeed, be beneficial to drink if you are suffering from a form of iron deficiency.

Prune Juice
Has been shown to benefit people that suffer from constipation and IBS. It is very high levels of antioxidants and is also a good source of iron, fibre and potassium.

Tea - herbal and black
To help prevent dehydration which can be one of the causes of poor concentration - important for teenagers and those at university! They are also a good source of antioxidants and may help lower stress hormone levels and boost our immune systems.

Tomato Juice
Drinking tomato Juice will provide you with a rich source of antioxidant lycopene which is believed to protect against cancer and have anti-ageing properties. It may be able to inhibit clot formation and platelet aggregation and possibly be beneficial to diabetics.

And last, but not least...

Water
A very important fluid for the functioning of our bodies. Our bodies require water that does not contain too many impurities but that provides us with a good source of various minerals and ions. Hence, many people prefer to drink bottled water, especially in areas of the World where the cleanliness of the water supply is known to be detrimental to our digestive systems. It is ideal to consume 8 glasses (approx. 2litres) of water a day but that is included in the foods and other drinks we consume, including coffees and teas. However, if you have healthy kidneys, it may not be possible or comfortable(!) to be drinking quite so much water each day. The quantity will always be dependent upon your health, how much you exercise and the temperature and humidity around you.
