Tips to Avoid Christmas Shopping Stress
Some people look forward to the Christmas season and the shopping that goes along with it all year long, with excitement and anticipation of finding that elusive, "perfect" gift for each friend and family member on their list.
Unfortunately, many others dread the season, simply for the shopping. Are you one of them? Christmas shopping might be a huge source of stress for you for a multitude of reasons-including the huge expense and sudden drain of your checking account, crowds upon crowds of equally stressed shoppers, and the frustration of not being able to find what you're looking for-especially if you don't know what you're even looking for while you're Christmas shopping in the first place!
Tips For Stress Free Christmas Shopping
However, there are tips you can follow if you want to keep your Christmas shopping as simple, hassle-free and stress-free as possible. Save money, avoid the crowds and still be able to find appropriate, appreciative gifts for everyone on your list-even your super picky best friend who returns everything and your father who already has everything.
First of all, shop early if you can. Start your "Christmas" shopping before the Christmas season even begins. This is one surefire way to avoid annoying crowds and avoid the last-minute stressed rush. Shop as early as January if you'd like-you are sure to find a wealth of treasures at greatly discounted prices in the post-Christmas season. Or shop in summer. One technique that works well is to just buy a gift here and there as you're doing your regular shopping throughout the year, so you're not doing it all at once.
Ideas To Reduce Christmas Shopping Stress
Next, consider buying in bulk while you're Christmas shopping. This doesn't necessarily mean buying everyone on your list the same gift, but for groups of people that you need to buy smaller gifts for (your co-workers, your students, your book club, a neighborhood group, a specific group of friends), consider giving them all the same thing. It's neither lazy nor inappropriate, as long as the gift is thoughtful and will work for everybody. If you feel too awkward with this suggestion, try giving everyone a similar item.
Third, why not add a collectible to someone's collection? Many people have collections of all sorts, and they will surely appreciate you adding to their collection for them so they're not always spending their money on the same type of thing. Make sure, though, that you find out what they have and don't have so you don't get duplicates. Christmas shopping can be fun when you're adding to already-started collections!
Online Shopping Reduces Christmas Shopping Stress
Further, consider getting online for Christmas shopping. You'll have to start early enough (consider shipment and delivery times) but you can find a plethora of little treasures online if you do your research. This is probably the most convenient way to go Christmas shopping, and you'll definitely avoid all crowds, as well as find a much broader range of selection of possible gifts by going this route instead of relying on your local mall where everyone else is going.
Go non-traditional. Instead of buying physical gifts for your loved ones when you're Christmas shopping, get everyone tickets to a movie, concert, or other show or event:get one for yourself as well so you can tag along, and you'll also be giving the gift of your company! In addition, gift certificates also work great, for favorite restaurants, gift stores, classes, massages, a day at the spa, a weekend getaway:the possibilities are endless.
Christmas shopping doesn't have to be stressful, complicated and expensive. Shop early and choose to be thrifty yet creative and you'll be doing yourself and your loved ones a giant favor.
