Rhesus Negative Injection

My Pregnancy Diary - 31 Weeks

Hello again! Well the whole idea of keeping a weekly diary has flown out the window! Life just gets so busy - so updates are the way.

The past four weeks have been good and my baby is kicking around like a football player! My mother asked our 21month old daughter if she wanted a baby brother or sister the other week and she replied "a donkey"! - Well, I certainly hope there is no donkey in there but it certainly feels like it at times!

Gestational Diabetes

I have managed to fit in two midwife visits since my last article. What seems like litres of blood was taken and I also had to do a glucose test to rule out gestational diabetes. This can be a real problem for some women - I don't know too much about it because thankfully I have never had to deal with it but I did have a girlfriend many years ago who had it whilst she was pregnant. It was managed correctly and then just seemed to disappear after she gave birth.

Rhesus Negative

My blood group is O- and I am also Rhesus negative. I had to have my first anti-d injection at 28 weeks and then will need another at about 36 weeks and another yet again after I have given birth. This is nothing to worry about, but without the anti-d shots my body could build antibodies against the baby if the baby is a different blood type to me and then this could also effect any future pregnancies (although I am hoping that this baby is a boy and then we can stop at one of each at the moment!!)

Plenty of Rest

I have been making a concerted effort to rest in the afternoon and it seems to be making a real difference to the way I am feeling. I feel that I can get through the afternoon and evening a lot better now. I must be needing the rest at the moment, because I lie down with the intention of only resting for half and hour and usually wake up and hour and a half later! A couple of weeks ago we all had a really bad cold. I was on the up from mine but our daughter for two nights in a row was up about every 40 minutes throughout the night - it was like going back to the first 3 months of baby's life all over again - so I think all of the sleep I have been getting is catch up sleep from this.

Don't Get Dehydrated

Did you know that you are supposed to drink at least 2 litres of water a day? I always thought that I did really well at consuming enough water, but I had a dizzy spell last week, so went to the doctor who proceeded to tell me I was dehydrated! So my big tip in signing off is Drink Plenty Of Water - you'll be going to the toilet every 20minutes - but it's necessary!
