Petrol Prices Breach £1 a litre

Live submissions to our website show that the average price of Unleaded fuel has breached the £1 mark for the first time in the UK.

Since the weekend the average price of a litre of fuel sold rose from 98p to 100.3p a litre, a massive increase in just 4 days!

This means that an average 50litre tank of fuel will now cost £50.15 to fill up, compared to just £42.50 when fuel was 85p/litre back in April this year.

We confidently predicted a month ago that petrol prices would breach £1 in November , based on the current trend in oil prices , and in the last few weeks we have drawn ever closer to that barrier for Unleaded Petrol with it finally being breached sometime over the weekend, whilst Diesel rocketed through £1 some time ago and now stands at 102.3p a litre.

Our analysis shows that if petrol remains above $80 a barrel then it is inevitable that petrol will remain above £1/litre. In the last few days we have seen oil reach the dizzy heights of $97 a barrel, and this is just piling the pressure on the forecourt prices The price of petrol is closely linked to oil prices as shown in the graph below, it shows that the high fuel prices are an inevitable consequence of the jump in oil prices on the international market. The next step may well be Unleaded going through £5 a gallon, which is around 110p/litre.

As of 2007-10-24 the average price of fuel in the UK is: Disclaimer
