New things to try with your dog
Dogs like to be mental stimulated. Many dogs, although they love to be walked, get bored of the same activity every day. Plus as an owner it can be fun to get out and do something different with your dog. Here are just a few activities you can try with your dog.
Flyball and dogs
If your dog loves running an fetching then flyball could be the sport for him. In flyball the dog has to run very fast down a narrow corridor of jumps, catch a tennis ball thrown to them at the end and then run back over the jumps. The fastest dog is the winner. There are clubs running flyball classes and competitions all over the UK. Any dog of any age, size and breeding can take part, as long as they like fetching tennis balls.
Dog Obedience ckasses
This may sound easy, getting your dog to sit and stay is the first thing you taught your dog afterall. But obedience is much more than sit and stay and can be very challenging for both owner and dog at the higher levels. There are clubs all over the UK and some run competitive obedience competitions.
Dog dancing
Dog dancing or heelwork to music builds on obedience principles but is done to music. If your dog likes learning, is obedient and loves food then chances are he will take to dog dancing and quickly pick up the moves. There are not many clubs currently running dog dancing but it is growing in popularity. It is worth contacting a dog trainer in your area to see if they would be willing to set up a club if there is not one already running.
Dog Agility training
Dog agility is fast, fun and a great way to keep fit for both dog and owner. It involves a course of obsticles and jumps which must be completed accurately and as quickly as possible. If your dog has basic obedience skills and loves to run and jump they will be good at agility. There are lots of classes and competitions all over the UK.
Dog shows
Whether your dog is a pedigree or not, dog shows are a great way to get out, meet like minded people and let your dog socialise with other dogs. Plus there are usually prizes, rosettes and trophies on offer. Companion dog shows are those for pet dogs and if you search the internet there are usually dog shows going on all over the summer.
