Neutering

Neutering Your Pets

Neutering Cats

Unless you are planning on breeding your pet, neutering is the most responsible way of avoiding unwanted pregnancies. It will also help to prevent your male cat from wandering or fighting as much and will stop them spraying urine on your furniture.

It costs around £60 to spay a female cat and £40 to castrate a male cat.

Neutering of both male and female cats can be performed when your pet is over six months of age. The operations for both male and female cats involves putting them to sleep under general anaesthetic. Your pets can usually return home on the same day of the operation. Castration will not require stitches, but spayed cats will need to return to the veterinary surgery to have stitches removed approximately ten days after surgery and may have to wear a collar to prevent them from getting at their stitches.

Neutering Dogs

Neutering your pet dog will help prevent unwanted puppies and will also provide health benefits for your pet, including reducing the risk of cancers such as breast and prostate cancer. It can be performed on a dog of any age with best results under the age of one year. Castrating your dog will make it less likely for your pet to be involved in fights with other male dogs and prevent it from wandering. Spaying can prevent problems such as false pregnancies. Neutering operations are performed under general anaesthetic from which your pets will recover very quickly and can return home on the same day.

The cost of neutering your pet dog depends on its size. The minimal cost of spaying is approximately £80 while castrating costs around £40.
