Housing market prices for estate agent fees
Estate agents will typically charge a home seller a certain percentage of the sale price of the home, only payable once the sale is completed. They may also charge an upfront initial fee to cover costs such as taking photographs, creating a sales brochure etc. Usually you can negotiate on the exact percentage, or even offer the estate agent an incentive if they manage to get more than the asking price, as with anything to do with a house sale, everything is negotiable. You should make sure you are clear exactly what services are included in their commision structure, for example will they ensure that someone is available to show people around the home in the day time? Also note that most estate agents quote their commision EXCLUSIVE of VAT, make sure that you are clear whether they are charging ex-VAT or inclusive of VAT, as on a typical home sale this can affect the final bill by several hundred pounds
