About Asda Fuel
Asda has been in the fuel business since 1967, and now operates over 500 petrol stations across the UK.
Established on May 3, 1965, Asda’s name is derived from a partnership between the Asquith family and Associated Dairies, combining to form Asquith and Dairies.
Asda, as one of the largest supermarket retailers in the UK, is well-known for offering competitive fuel pricing through its extensive network of forecourts. By leveraging its substantial buying power, Asda aims to undercut petrol station prices and provide customers with affordable refuelling options.
Asda offers three main grades of petrol and diesel at their forecourts:
- Unleaded: Regular unleaded petrol is suitable for most vehicle types
- Super Unleaded: Premium grade fuel for optimal engine performance
- Diesel: For diesel/compression engine vehicles
In addition to conventional petrol, Asda also provides more eco-friendly fuel options like biofuels and blends with bioethanol or biodiesel components. This allows customers to choose a fuel type that aligns with their vehicle requirements as well as their environmental principles.
In the 1970s, Asda began collaborations with Mobile Shell and Texaco. By the 1990s, they were sourcing fuel from the same refineries as major branded petrol and diesel companies. In 2022, Asda expanded its network by acquiring 132 fuel station forecourts from the Co-op.
As of the Petrol Retailers Association Market Review 2024, Asda holds a 7.8% market share in the UK motor fuel volume sales. In addition to petrol and diesel, Asda fuel stations offer air pumps and car washing facilities. Many locations are open 24 hours a day and include a convenience shop with hot and cold drinks.

Asda Fuel Prices FAQs
How often are Asda fuel prices updated?
We update Asda’s petrol and diesel prices hourly to provide the most current costs across their UK network. Our tracker pulls pricing data directly from Asda to ensure you have accurate, real-time fuel rates no matter where you’re searching from. Asda can change prices at any time based on fluctuations in wholesale fuel costs.
Can I pay at the pump at Asda fuel stations?
Yes, all Asda forecourts allow customers to pay for their petrol or diesel directly at the pump using credit/debit cards, Asda loyalty cards, and mobile payment options like Apple Pay or Google Pay. This provides a convenient refuelling experience.
Does Asda sell premium-grade fuels?
Yes, Asda sells premium-grade fuels. Their fuel meets the same high standards as branded oil major petrol stations and comes from the same refineries. Asda ensures the quality of their fuel through a dedicated fleet of tankers and stringent testing regimes at the refineries. The fuel is compliant with British Standards (EN228 for petrol and EN590 for diesel) and meets the even higher standards of the World Fuels Charter.
Do Asda fuel stations have EV charging points?
Asda currently has a limited number of electric vehicle (EV) charging points available at its stores. As of now, Asda operates only 46 EV chargers, a significant reduction from the 165 chargers available at the beginning of 2023. This change follows the end of their partnership with BP Pulse, resulting in functional EV chargers at only 2% of Asda stores.
