Ideal Vogue Max Combi Boiler Cost with Installation

  • Written by Georgina Holmes
  • Last updated 10 April 2026

The cost of the Ideal Vogue Max combi varies by output: £1,500 (26kW), £1,600 (32kW), £1,800 (40kW).
With installation costs sitting between £800 and £1,400, the total installed cost can be anywhere from £2,300 to £3,200.

The Vogue Max is Ideal’s flagship domestic combi. A premium boiler from a British manufacturer built around a stainless steel heat exchanger, an included system filter, and a 10-year warranty straight out of the box.

It comes in three outputs, handles homes from a small flat up to a large four-bedroom property, and carries one of the longest standard warranties in this price bracket. The one practical limitation is size: at 740mm tall and 330mm deep, it won’t fit inside a standard kitchen cupboard.

Ideal Vogue Max Combi overview

The range comes in three outputs. The 26kW suits smaller homes, typically a flat or two-bedroom house, with a single bathroom and up to around 10 radiators.

The 32kW is the middle model and the most versatile, covering 3 to 4 bedroom homes with one or two bathrooms and up to 20 radiators.

The 40kW is for homes with serious hot water demand: larger properties where two bathrooms see regular simultaneous morning use, with a 16.4 l/min flow rate that’s competitive with anything in this price bracket.

Ideal Vogue Max Combi technical specifications

The stainless steel heat exchanger is the Vogue Max’s core technical advantage over the aluminium exchangers found in lower-priced boilers.

Stainless steel is more resistant to corrosion and limescale than aluminium, particularly in hard water areas, and it maintains its heat transfer efficiency over a longer service life. Ideal back the stainless steel exchanger across the Vogue Max range with the full warranty period.

The Hydrobloc is the hydraulic assembly at the heart of the boiler (the component that manages water flow and direction between the heating and hot water circuits). In the Vogue Max, this uses a 24V stepper motor rather than the simpler mechanical valves found in budget boilers.

The stepper motor controls flow rates precisely and predictably, which contributes both to the reliability record and to the smoother temperature transitions users notice when switching between heating and hot water demand.

Output and efficiency ratings

WIth three output options (26kW, 32kW, and 40kW) all having a 93%, ErP A-rated efficiency score, the Ideal Vogue Max combi is a strong choice for heating efficiency.

Like all modern condensing boilers, the Vogue Max recovers heat from the flue gases that would otherwise be lost – this is what makes the condensing process work, and what allows it to achieve its high efficiency rating while meeting low NOx emissions requirements.

The 1:7 modulation ratio means the boiler can run at as little as 14% of maximum output during low-demand periods. In a well-insulated home on a mild day, this allows the boiler to tick over at minimal gas consumption rather than cycling on and off repeatedly. For context, the Viessmann Vitodens 200-W reaches 1:17, a considerably wider range, but the Vogue Max’s 1:7 is competitive with most mid-range combis at this price.

Dimensions

With a height of 740mm, width of 445mm, and depth of 330mm the Ideal Vogue Max combi is not compact. Not, at least, if you want a cupboard installation. As a wall-hung combi this does restrict placement options.

The Ideal Vogue Max is designed with a sleek look, so if you’re alright with your boiler on display, this combi can easily be hung in a kitchen without being too much of an eye-sore. Otherwise, a garage or more discreet installation location might be your best bet to keep the boiler from disrupting your living space.

Components included

The Ideal Vogue Max ships with the system filter already included in the box. The filter is a brass unit that captures metallic debris and sludge before it reaches the heat exchanger. In boilers with aluminium exchangers, a filter is the most important tool for preventing premature failure; in the Vogue Max with its stainless steel exchanger, the filter still extends the system’s life and is a condition of the 10-year warranty. Having it included removes one purchasing decision and one potential installation omission.

The display is one of the more considered interfaces in this price bracket. It uses plain text and graphics rather than icon-only navigation, shows a service timer and allows the installer’s phone number to be stored for easy call-out reference, and has large rotary control dials with a damped door that closes quietly. The backlit display is also easy to read in a dimly lit utility room.

With a Grundfos modulating pump, this combi adjusts flow rate to match actual system demand rather than running at a constant speed. The energy saving from the pump itself is modest, but the reduced cycling stress on pipework and components over a decade contributes to system longevity.

The Vogue Max is compatible with Ideal’s Halo range of smart thermostats, including the Halo RF (wireless programmable) and Halo WiFi (app-controlled with weather compensation). These aren’t included; both are sold separately at around £130-£200. The Halo WiFi gives the Vogue Max comparable smart functionality to the Worcester 4000’s built-in connectivity, though it requires the additional purchase and installation.

Prices and installation costs

The Vogue Max sits at the upper end of the mid-market – slightly more expensive than the other combis offering equivalent outputs. That said, the Ideal Vogue Max is our best combi boiler choice for larger homes on a budget.

The Ideal System Filter is included in the unit price, which removes one accessory cost that other manufacturers charge for separately, but the price gap is real. The Vogue Max is competing less on upfront cost and more on warranty length, component quality, and build specification.

A standard horizontal side-wall flue is included in our prices – which is a standard part of boiler installation, with the flue directing harmful gases outside. A horizontal flue adds around £100–£150; a vertical roof flue can exceed £500.

Using a mid-range installation figure of approximately £1,200:

Warranty and support

The standard warranty is 10 years parts and labour, and requires registration within 30 days of installation. The boiler must also be serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer, with service records maintained in the Benchmark logbook, to keep the warranty valid throughout the period.

The 12-year warranty is available when the boiler is installed and serviced by a Max Accredited Ideal installer. The accreditation scheme is Ideal’s own programme for engineers who have completed specific training; your installer can tell you whether they hold Max Accredited status, and it’s worth asking at the quoting stage.

The warranty covers manufacturing defects and component failures under normal use. It does not cover damage caused by contaminated water – sludge, limescale, or flux residues – which is one reason the included System Filter is not optional: Ideal require it to be fitted and operational as a condition of warranty cover. Any engineer call-out where the fault turns out to be installation-related or caused by water quality rather than a product defect becomes chargeable.

Installation information

Installation costs for the Ideal Vogue Max combi are typically around £1,200, though the final price will depend on factors such as your existing heating system, pipework condition, flue position, and local labour rates.

What to expect on installation day

  • Preparation and checks
Your engineer will check the new boiler location and ensure all pipework and connections are in place. At this point, they will identify if an old system needs to be removed, if you need any upgrades or replacement parts.
  • Removing the old boiler
Your existing system will need to be disconnected and safely removed. This will include the gas supply, water and flue. If you’re switching boiler types (system or regular to a combi), tanks and cylinders may also be removed and disposed of.
  • Fitting your new boiler
Assuming your boiler is being fitted in the same location as your old one, your engineer will begin to install the new combi boiler unit. This will include mounting the boiler, connecting water pipes and installing the flue system.

If you move the boiler location, some further preparation is needed first to relocate pipework, gas supply and power sources.
  • Configuring and controls
The engineer will complete all the electrical connections and set up controls, including thermostats.

Next, they will fill and pressurise the system, checking that radiators and pipework are in good working order (with no leaks in sight!).
  • Turn on and handover
Finally, your installer will fire up the system and check everything is safe and working. Then they can show you how to operate everything and complete the necessary records, such as registering the installation to validate your warranty.

Do you need a system flush or filter?

Under UK Building Regulations, it is now a mandatory requirement to fit a filter before a new boiler is installed. Whilst a flush isn’t required, it is recommended. A flush removes “sludge” (iron oxide) that has accumulated in your radiators over the years.

The System Filter is included with the boiler and must be fitted as a warranty condition, not an optional extra. A powerflush is strongly recommended on any system over ten years old, and is particularly important ahead of a stainless steel heat exchanger installation: a clean system protects the exchanger and ensures the warranty remains valid from day one. Budget £350-£800 for a powerflush.

Finding a Gas Safe registered engineer

In the UK, gas boiler installations must legally be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. This ensures the work meets safety regulations and is completed to the right standard.

Before choosing an installer, it’s a good idea to gather quotes from several Gas Safe registered engineers. This allows you to compare pricing, experience, and recommendations, helping you find the right installer.

You can also use the WhatPrice quote service to be matched with vetted, Gas Safe registered installers in your area.

Reviews and ratings

Ideal Heating has an “Excellent” rating on Trustpilot, with an average score of 4.8 out of 5.

We’ve summarised some of the most common reviews for the Ideal Vogue Max combi below:

Positive reviews

The warranty is the most consistent purchase driver in Vogue Max reviews. One homeowner who had two separate error codes in the first year called out an engineer both times, received a next-day visit on each occasion, and noted they would buy the boiler again specifically because of the 10-year warranty. Another described the C32 as “stupendous, efficient, quiet and well built.”

An ex-plumber who chose the Vogue Max after comparing options said she was glad of the decision. One reviewer switched to the Vogue Max after their previous boiler proved unreliable within a few years, finding the new boiler and Ideal’s backup support considerably better.

Warranty call-out response is praised consistently – most reviewers with faults under warranty report next-day or two-day engineer attendance, with engineers praised for being knowledgeable, clean, and thorough. A 26kW owner who had a blank screen and total loss of heating and hot water had an engineer out within two days, fault diagnosed and fixed in around an hour.

Negative reviews

Early faults are the most common complaint. Multiple Vogue Max owners report fault codes appearing within 48 hours to a few weeks of installation. The boilers were fixed under warranty in most cases, but the wait times for engineer attendance (typically 5 to 11 days, sometimes longer) draw significant criticism from people who are without heating or hot water. Ideal’s own response to one such review acknowledged they don’t offer an emergency service and that appointment times vary by location and availability.

The 12-year warranty extension is a recurring source of frustration. Two separate Vogue Max owners independently discovered after installation that their installer, though Gas Safe registered and Ideal-approved, was not specifically Max Accredited, meaning they received 10 years rather than 12.

In one case, the installer’s accreditation had lapsed due to a missed online assessment; in the other, the installer didn’t install enough Vogue Max boilers to qualify. One case was eventually resolved after five months; the other was not. Both reviewers felt the distinction between “Ideal approved” and “Max Accredited” was inadequately communicated at purchase.

Final thoughts – is the Ideal Vogue Max combi right for you?

At £1,600 for the 32kW, the Vogue Max sits below both of its closest rivals – the Vaillant ecoTEC Exclusive at around £2,000 and the Viessmann Vitodens 200-W at around £2,050. All three use stainless steel heat exchangers, all three offer up to 12 years maximum warranty, and all three can handle two bathrooms at the top of their respective ranges. The differences are in the details.

The warranty baseline is where the Vogue Max pulls ahead most clearly. Ten years standard, registered within 30 days. The Vaillant ecoTEC Exclusive starts at 5 years, half the Vogue Max’s baseline, and requires the Boiler Protection Kit and a Vaillant Advance installer to reach 10 years. The Viessmann 200-W matches the Vogue Max’s 10-year standard, and both extend to 12 years through their respective accredited installer schemes.

On connectivity, the Viessmann 200-W has built-in WiFi and ViCare app control as standard – a day-one advantage over both rivals. The Vaillant Exclusive requires a separate myVAILLANT connect gateway for app control, as does the Vogue Max with the Halo WiFi. Neither is out-of-box connected, which puts both at a disadvantage against the Viessmann on this specific point. At £400-£450 less than either rival though, a Halo WiFi purchase still leaves the Vogue Max the cheapest of the three by a comfortable margin.

The cupboard fit is the Vogue Max’s practical limitation. Both the Vaillant Exclusive and the Viessmann 200-W fit inside a standard kitchen cupboard; the Vogue Max at 740mm tall and 330mm deep does not. For homeowners with the space to accommodate it on a wall or in a utility room, this is a non-issue. For those whose installation position requires a cupboard fit, the Viessmann 200-W is the closest alternative at a comparable output and warranty level.

The Viessmann 200-W tops out at 35kW, sufficient for most two-bathroom homes but not for larger properties with heavier simultaneous demand. The Vogue Max and Vaillant Exclusive both offer 40kW, making them the stronger choice for 4 to 5 bedroom homes where hot water demand is consistently high.

FAQ

Yes, the Ideal System Filter is included in the box as standard. It is also a warranty condition: the filter must be installed and operational throughout the warranty period. Ideal also recommend a powerflush of the existing system before installation, particularly on older systems.

The Vogue Max is compatible with hydrogen-blended gas supplies of up to 20% hydrogen, in line with the current direction of the UK gas grid transition. It is not designed for 100% hydrogen operation, which remains a future development across the industry. No modification is required to use blended supplies as they are introduced to the network.

Yes. LPG conversion kits are available for all three output models, making the Vogue Max suitable for properties not connected to the mains gas grid.

The boiler must be installed by a Max Accredited Ideal installer and registered within 30 days of installation. Annual servicing by a Gas Safe registered engineer, with records maintained in the Benchmark logbook, is required throughout the warranty period. Ask your installer at the quoting stage whether they hold Max Accreditation.

The Vogue Max is compatible with the full Ideal Halo range, including the Halo RF (wireless programmable thermostat) and Halo WiFi (app-controlled, with weather compensation and remote access via smartphone). Both are sold separately. The Halo WiFi is the equivalent of built-in smart connectivity on rival models and is the recommended pairing for homeowners who want app control.
