There is a wide variation in skill needed to carry out different types of roof repairs. Sometimes, the skill level is quite low for a simple task but gaining access to do the work may be difficult or daunting so it is advisable that these jobs are left to the experts.
This section is presented in three parts; repairs to pitched roofs, repairs to flat roofs and new roof work. Neither the cost of removing debris nor the hire of access equipment is included in the following roof repair costs.
Bear in mind that where the cost is shown under Builder’s Charges for replacing a single roof slate, this is for the work only and does not include any travelling time.

Repairs to Flat Roofs
The average lifespan of a flat roof is between 25 to 30 years although this can be extended by careful maintenance. Only minor patching repairs to bituminous felt roofing should be carried out by DIYers and more extensive work should be left to the experts.
Further, work to flat roofs involving copper, aluminium or lead is highly specialised and professional advice should always be sought for this type of work.
