Overview of Vaillant boilers and their reputation
Vaillant is one of the leading boiler manufacturers serving the UK market. Known for its pioneering technology and extensive company history, Vaillant boilers meet prestige standards relating to build quality and performance.
When in search of a premium boiler which boasts excellent energy efficiency and durability, Vaillant is one of the top names recommended by plumbing and heating engineers.
Why choose a Vaillant boiler?
Replacing a boiler is a major purchase, but one that most people don’t make too often. So why opt for Vaillant over rival brands such as Worcester Bosch, Baxi or Ideal?
On the whole, Vaillant is known for its vast range of boilers covering endless boiler types and power outputs. As a result, it’s easier to select a boiler to meet your exact usage needs, while also factoring in the ease of installation.
Most of all, Vaillant excels where energy efficiency and performance are concerned. For households who demand a lot from their heating and hot water needs, Vaillant boilers are certainly up to the challenge.
Vaillant boiler prices tend to be higher across their combi, regular and system boiler ranges. But, if choosing the best boiler is important to you, it is well worth upgrading to a brand that even the professionals recommend.
Who Makes Vaillant boilers?

Vaillant has been manufacturing boilers for over 150 years, with the company founded in Germany in 1874 by Johann Vaillant.
Crucially, Vaillant manufactures its present day range of boilers in Derbyshire. Fusing German engineering with the best of British has proved to be a winning combination for Vaillant, as the company is widely considered one of the best boiler manufacturers.
Types of Vaillant boilers
Vaillant combi boilers
Vaillant combi boilers are known as some of the best combi boilers available which is high praise indeed. For this reason, Vaillant is a top brand suggested by installers when requesting a new combi boiler quote.
Both the Vaillant EcoTEC and EcoFit pure ranges offer superior energy efficiency and also have Quiet Mark accreditation. In fact we ranked the EcoTEC Plus as the best combi for larger homes with high hot water demands.
While Vaillant combi boilers can be more expensive than rival brands, the level of performance and exceptional build quality certainly justify the price. Vaillant is so confident about their combi boilers, they back them with a 10 year warranty.
Vaillant system boilers
Catering to flexible usage demands, Vaillant’s range of system boilers span 12kW to 65kW models.
System boilers can be used with a hot water storage cylinder, but they can also be used as part of a system that is powered by renewable energy sources like solar. Crucially, as the system is filled from the mains, is it unusual to require a cold water tank in the loft when opting for a Vaillant system boiler.
Vaillant regular boilers
Vaillant regular boilers can be installed with its range of cylinders for hot water storage. Regular boilers (also known as conventional boilers) are geared towards homes with high hot water demands.
Dubbed as ‘cupboard fit boilers’ by Vaillant, these boilers are powerful yet compact. Various models achieve 93% energy efficiency. Vaillant regular boilers also feature aluminium heat exchangers denoting high build quality.

Working out how much a Vaillant combi boiler costs can be challenging when researching prices online. This is because many providers give a cost that also includes installation, which can make it seem as if there is a large price difference between different retailers.
Something to note is that these online installation platforms initially provide a standard quote on their website. However, this is likely to increase once you send the specifics over for your boiler installation.
Therefore, it’s important to also ask trusted plumbing and heating engineers who are local to you for quotes. If they are able to visit your property to assess the scope of the job, this can also help avoid any unexpected price hikes.

Vaillant boiler installation cost
Our research has found the average cost to install a Vaillant boiler is between £1,200 to £1,700.
However, many installers offer a package deal which includes the supply and installation of Vaillant boilers for between £2,470 to £3,700.
Given these are average costs, you should expect to pay anywhere up to £1,000 more if opting for the most premium Vaillant boilers. This is due to the increased unit price of the boiler combined with the installation costs.
There are several aspects which will ultimately determine how much a Vaillant boiler installation costs. This includes the type of Vaillant boiler you opt for and also its power output.
Another huge factor is whether you will be opting for a like-for-like boiler replacement, or if more extensive work will be needed to convert the system, or even move the boiler to a new location in your home.
To get an idea of what an installer might charge to install a Vaillant boiler, you should collect several quotes before you go ahead.
As a minimum, the installer must be gas safe registered. However, opting for an installer who possesses additional plumbing and heating accreditations, including being a Vaillant approved installer can offer the best installation experience.

Vaillant boiler warranties
Vaillant boiler range | Standard warranty | Warranty period when registered by advanced installer | 10 year guarantee available? |
---|---|---|---|
EcoTEC exclusive with Green iQ | 5 years | 8 years | Yes |
EcoTEC plus | 5 years | 7 years | Yes |
EcoTEC pro | 2 years | 7 years | No |
EcoFIT pure | 2 years | 7 years | Yes |
Having a quality installation is always important when purchasing a boiler, but with Vaillant boilers, it can make all the difference in how long your boiler will be covered under its manufacturer warranty.
For instance, EcoFIT Pure boilers can have a warranty period of anywhere from 2 to 10 years, simply based on who registers the installation, plus whether accessories which extend the life of your boiler have been installed.
Unlike some boiler manufacturers (i.e. Viessmann), Vaillant doesn’t offer the ability to purchase extended warranties outright.
How to extend your Vaillant boiler warranty
Boilers are a major purchase meaning it’s often cost-effective to do everything you can to maximise the warranty period.
Vaillant requires you to register your boiler within 30 days for it to be covered under a warranty. However, once you do so, you will gain access to nationwide Vaillant technicians should you have any issues. If replacement parts are needed, these will be provided free of charge.
The main ways to extend your Vaillant boiler warranty include:
- Have your boiler registered by an advanced installer to take your warranty from 2 to 8 years depending on the model
- Have a Boiler Protection Kit or Advance Boiler Protection Kit installed during your boiler installation to get a 10 year guarantee
Read the terms and conditions carefully, as Vaillant has a number of stipulations which can invalidate your warranty. For instance, you must get your boiler serviced every 12 months. Also the system must be flushed, cleansed and inhibited to comply with BS7593 regulations and also qualify for the warranty.
Vaillant boiler reviews & customer feedback
Vaillant are highly regarded by the trades and homeowners alike.
One of the most common areas of feedback where comparisons with other brands (i.e. Worcester Bosch) are concerned is that while Vaillant boilers are more expensive, their build quality and repair options put them ahead.
Furthermore, Vaillant boilers are often category winners in terms of being the ‘best boiler’ for key aspects, such as the Vaillant EcoTec Pro which is widely considered the best value boiler for large homes.
On Trustpilot, Vaillant has over 20,000 reviews, 78% of which are 5 stars.
Common areas of praise:
In terms of the quality of its boilers, Vaillant is difficult to fault. They are well built and boast excellent efficiency. For anyone upgrading an old boiler to a new Vaillant boiler, the difference in the speed of hot water availability is astounding.
Vaillant boilers also come with a range of accessories including Boiler Filter Protection Kits which extends the working life of the boiler and also makes customers eligible for 10 year guarantees.
Another highly favoured aspect of Vaillant boilers is that they have exceptional quietness. As a result, they won’t disturb the peace while in operation.
The most common Vaillant complaints relate to:
Even boiler manufacturer stalwarts like Vaillant aren’t immune to customer complaints. While negative feedback about Vaillant isn’t as common as other brands, there are some common areas of frustration that customers have noted.
While Vaillant boilers are often marketed as premium products, the quality of the installation can make these benefits difficult to appreciate. In particular, opting for a well known installation platform dubbed the ‘Uber of boiler installers’ can lead to a poor installation experience. Instead, it is highly recommended to opt for a Vaillant accredited gas installer, who can then also provide boiler servicing and coverage.
Should you have an issue with your Vaillant boiler, Vaillant’s customer service has also been subject to poor reviews. Its AI-led website customer service is unhelpful, especially as it directs customers to call or use WhatsApp instead. Overall, Vaillant would benefit from improving its customer service to match its premium products.
Decision making tips for potential buyers
Vaillant frequently appears in lists of the top 5 boiler brands available in the UK along with the likes of Worcester Bosch, Baxi and Ideal. What sets Vaillant apart is its phenomenal energy efficiency, especially if opting for one of their newer boilers.
When looking to purchase a Vaillant boiler, there will be some common considerations that you should factor in regardless of the manufacturer, but also some choices that apply to Vaillant boilers specifically.
The common considerations include:
- Choosing the right boiler type for your property (i.e. combi, system or regular boilers)
- Selecting a suitable size boiler for your usage requirements (in kW)
- Average energy efficiency
- Overall build quality
- Installation complexity
- Typical warranty periods and whether extensions are available
- Customer service reviews
As you might have noticed from our above comparisons of Vaillant combi boilers, system boilers and regular boilers—there are a lot of Vaillant boilers.
Choice is always a good thing, but with that comes the risk of being overwhelmed which is why it’s important to take your time to select the best Vaillant range and specific model for your needs. You can use our boiler calculator which will provide an accurate estimate based upon your actual property details.
Always consider the number of radiators and bathrooms your property has so that the boiler type and power output will be able to keep up with demand. It can also be invaluable to consult a tradesperson to narrow 2-3 models down to help guide your final decision.

Vaillant boiler prices FAQs
Curious about the typical new Vaillant boiler cost? We’ve answered some of the most popular questions below.
If you’re considering purchasing a boiler from another brand, be sure to check out our other boiler price guides. We’ve done all the research for you to help save you time and hopefully money on your new boiler!
How much does a Vaillant boiler cost?
Vaillant boilers cost between £2,470 to £3,700 including installation on average.
The price of a Vaillant boiler fluctuates due to how vast the range is. Likewise, where you buy your boiler from, including whether installation is included can impact the cost.
Expect to pay more for some of the best performing Vaillant boilers. Although, with the option of getting a 10 year warranty, plus the excellent energy efficiency, opting for a more premium Vaillant boiler could potentially save you money over the long run.
Which Vaillant boiler is the most reliable?
It’s a tie, as the two Vaillant boilers which are most associated with reliability include the EcoFIT Pure 830 and the EcoTEC Plus 832.
Both the EcoFit Pure and EcoTEC Plus ranges as a whole are very highly praised on review platforms. So these would definitely be great starting points if you’re in search of a durable, high performance energy efficient boiler.
What warranty comes with a Vaillant boiler?
Vaillant boilers have a warranty period of between 2 and 10 years.
Unlike other boiler manufacturers, the Vaillant warranty process is slightly more complex. That’s because to get an extended warranty of up to 10 years, you need to have additional appliances installed (the Boiler Protection Kit or Advance Boiler Protection Kit). Otherwise, the warranty period is limited to 2 to 5 years depending on the Vaillant range you choose.
Are Vaillant boilers energy efficient?
Yes. Vaillant claims its condensing boilers are up to 98% energy efficient.
However, our own research suggests the most energy efficient Vaillant boilers are the Vaillant ecoTEC Plus Combi Boiler and the Vaillant ecoTEC Plus Regular Boiler, which both have an energy efficiency of up to 94%.
While this number is slightly less than what Vaillant suggests, it is still excellent. Overall, Vaillant boilers are considered some of the most energy efficient boilers as they often exceed UK standards.
It’s worth noting that newer boilers, regardless of the brand, must be energy efficient. If you currently have an older Vaillant boiler that was installed before 2018 it may not meet the minimum standards. So it’s important to check the specific boiler make, model and age. Doing so can suggest whether or not your boiler would benefit from an upgrade to a more efficient model.
Any problems with Vaillant boilers?
While there have been some known issues with Vaillant heat pumps, its boilers are on the whole very well regarded where performance, energy efficiency and reliability are concerned.
The majority of the reported issues with Vaillant are related to its customer service. For instance, on the Vaillant website, customers can access a live chat but as this is completely automated, it is very difficult to get any practical assistance from it. The call centre has proved equally frustrating, with long wait times to speak to an agent, and the line even being cut off completely while on hold.
For this reason, it is highly recommended to get Vaillant boiler coverage (including servicing and breakdowns) with a local Vaillant accredited technician. This is to ensure you will receive a speedy response should you have any issues with your new boiler.
